Prominent airline Qatar Airways created history by launching the world’s longest commercial airline route ever on Waitangi Day, celebrated as one of the most important days of the year in Auckland.

If you fancy getting on-board one, here is the news! The aircraft Boeing 777 took off from Doha and landed on the shores of North Island of New Zealand just after sunrise local time on Monday after covering a distance of 14,535 kilometers (9,032 miles).

• According to media reports, the Doha-Auckland route is the furthest distance between any two cities to be linked by direct flights.
• The departing flight would take 16 hours and 20 minutes on the Boeing 777 as compared to the long haul return trip of 17 hours and 30 minutes, which is longer due to the force exerted by headwind!
• The Boeing 777 has a total of 259 seats which are divided into 42 seats for the Business Class and 217 seats for the Economy Class.
• The Business Class comprises comfortable, fully-flat beds in the sky with 78 inches of seat pitch, and it also features an in-flight entertainment system with up to 3,000 entertainment options on individual screens across the flight.
• To add to its kitty, Qatar Airways has plans to launch flights to more destinations in 2017-18.
