90s’ kids alert! Five travel items we do not use anymore

A lot has changed since technology came into our lives. Most things have become digital now, as phones, and apps rule our lives. Travel too has seen a major change over the last few years. While on one hand it has become more pronounced, on the other hand technology has forced us to forgo certain things that we once used. The things that we once considered to be of utmost importance during our travels, have now become passe. Sadly, we do not require them anymore. So what are these items that we do not use anymore? Here is a list.

Getting an Eiffel Tower postcard from France, or a Taj Mahal postcard from India does not seem to excite us anymore. In fact no one sends handwritten postcards anymore, as all they need to do is send a quick text with the help of the internet. But that was a simple joy, a beautiful gesture, a symbol that meant something. Do you have any such postcards in your cupboard from the days of old?

The world used to fit in a paper map once-upon-a-time, now we have digital ones on our phones. Those maps contained the best sites, among other things, and we would simply stop during our day-out ina foreign land to pull it out and look through it. Nowadays we only simply have to look into our phones. Convenient, yes, but the thrill is gone.

Gone are the days when we would pack film rolls for our travels. After all, the thought of having finished your films was terrifying. These days we do not have to worry about all that, all we need is electricity, and our chargers to keep our phones working. Then the numerous photo editing apps, the video editors and so on do the magic.

Getting stamps in a foreign country was a great excitement, especially for stamp collectors. We hope you remember that your letters and postcards require stamps. So getting those stamps, and pasting them to send little notes and letters far away to another land sounds like a charming thing to do. Those stamps would then be saved by the receiver, because who doesn’t want to keep stamps from a different country?

There was a time when everyone carried a personal phone book. Leaving that behind was an ultimate disaster. So during travels, it was very important to carry this book, so that you can get in touch with someone when needed. You had to first go to a phone booth, open the phone book, pay, and dial! It was quite a task when compared to the use of mobile phones these days.
