Gorging on mutton pulao, for breakfast is not everybody’s cup of tea, but that’s till you have tasted the dish at the iconic Hanumanthu Mess (also referred to as hotel) in Mandi Mohalla one of Mysore’s endearing neighbourhoods. To be fair, the eatery does serve throughout the day but its pulao is so popular that it runs out very quickly. It is flavourful, relatively non-greasy and incredibly tasty. The establishment is nothing fancy and is actually quite small and with no frills, so much so that many people prefer takeaways. But it makes up with its ambience and a history going back three generations. It does dish up a range of other items, mostly mutton such as mutton chops and liver fry, as well as naati (free range) chicken dishes, such as fry and chicken pulao.
