The Paigah’s necropolis, located in a quiet neighbourhood 4 km southeast of Charminar, is a small compound of exquisite mausoleums made of marble and lime stucco. The aristocratic Paigah family, purportedly descendents of the second Caliph, were fierce loyalists of the Nizams. A majestic, double-storeyed gateway structure greets you as soon as you set foot in the premises. The main complex contains 27 tombs featuring intricate inlay work and delicately carved walls. These are often regarded as being the finest examples of Indo-Islamic architecture, melding features of the Asaf Jah style with the Rajputani style of architecture.
