Situated in a narrow lane near Purani Haveli in the Charminar area, Munshi Naan is one of the oldest bakers in the city of Hyderabad. The family-run eatery was started back in 1851 and moved to its current location six to seven decades ago. Its naan or unleavened bread goes especially well with Hyderabad’s famous meaty nihari. Made from maida, water and oil, the flour is left overnight and then baked in an underground oven. The resulting naans are fresh and soft, and available in shapes such as square, oblong, heart, star and round. The lane is lined with numerous other shops selling hot naans.
