Walk around the old town of Geneva – Vieille Ville as called in French, Geneva’s old town has a history of more than 2000 years. The Old Arsenal boasts the canons with mosaic decorations mentioning Caesar’s arrival in the city in 58 B.C. The ancient area was home to two castles which have long been destroyed. The Place du Bourg-de-Four is a central square in the Old Town of Geneva. The square was used as a cattle market during Roman times. Medieval marble fountain stands in the center of the square. The Old Town is now buzzing with hotels, restaurants, cafes, art galleries, museums, and souvenir shops. The highlight of the Old Town is Saint Pierre Cathedral which stands in adjacent small-square. Other highlights include the Maison Tavel, The Old Arsenal, and the famous luxurious Hotel de Ville. Walk around the narrow lanes of the Old Town and admire the history of Geneva. You could end your evening with a typical Swiss meal at Café de Bourg-de-Four after the stroll. The medieval style decorated cafe is quite popular for Swiss national dish Rösti.
