By no stretch of imagination can you even hope for any kind of nightlife in Mysore, unless you mean hanging around with friends to eat chaat and churmuri in neighbourhood pushcart areas. It has its share of bars in star hotels, but the more colourful and noisy places are the old world bars in some of the older parts of the city especially at Gandhi Square. At Shilpashri, there’s a roof top bar, which is popular with both locals and visitors as is Central Hotel. If you’re with a bunch of friends and like a bit of glitz and cheesy surroundings, then head to the Beer Garden at Parklane Hotel on Harsha Road. Needless to say, it is safer to stick to bottled or canned beer at these places or perhaps straight pegs of domestic rum and whiskey.
