India is all about culture, tradition, people and, or course, cuisines. A melting pot of cultures, Indian cuisine is globally renowned and has a huge fan following. There are several communities in India that consider food as their identity.
We also have a lot of bizarre foods; from red ant chutney and baby shark curry, expect a lot of unusual dishes on a trip to India. Here's a checklist of India's most bizarre foods.
Silkworm's Pupa, Assam
This is an exotic Assamese delicacy prepared from silkworm's pupa. The silk is taken from the silkworm’s cocoon and then the worm is prepared using local spices. This melt-in-mouth dish has vibrant shades and looks colourful.
Chaprah or red ant chutney, Chattisgarh
This is the favorite dish of tribals of Chhattisgarh. Chaprah or red ant chutney adds flavour to the food and is prepared using local spices and dried red ants and their eggs.
Frog Legs, Sikkim
There’s no dish as exotic as frog legs for people of Sikkim. The dish is prepared by the Lepcha community of Sikkim and it is believed that frog legs have medicinal value that cures various stomach-related diseases.
Fried snails, Odisha
Ever tried fried snails? Well if not, Odisha is the destination for you. The state has a large number of tribal population which eats natural food and fried snails is one of their specialities.
Dog Meat, Nagaland
Well believe it or not dog meat is favourite of Naga people. It is a popular cuisine of the tribal communities of Nagaland where a number of dishes are prepared using dog meat.
