India's many cultures allows it to have a wide variety of cuisines. Its street foods are world-renowned, and every city has something new to offer. It is imperative for travellers to explore a city through its foods, especially its street foods. That is where the flavours, the conversations, lye. Everything about a city can be perceived from its streets life, and food is a good way to get into it.
Kolkata
You may call this city the king of street foods. There is something for everyone here in the City of Joy. From steaming baos in China Town, to cheap Bengali foods on the street, and of course the legendary kathi rolls, you are surrounded by the food of your dreams. Don't forget phuchkas, and the best of sweets too. You will never feel down in this city.
Lucknow
The historic city in Uttar Pradesh has to be in the list of favourite street food cities. It is home to some of the most delicious kebabs you can ever get your hands on. Above all there is the Tunday Kebab that will blow your mind. Apart from kebabs, the city also offers its own style of biryani, and there is also a host of vegetarian options for foodies as well.
Delhi
There is no debate on the fact that Delhi is one of the most vibrant cities in the country, and street food is one of its prime attractions. Delhi's incredible chaats are to die for, and then there is the famous golgappas that never seem to end. You have got to try the famous chole bature, and the different types of biryanis that you find all throughout the city. Delhi is also a place to find some delicious momo.
Madurai
The soul of Tamil Nadu, Madurai is outstanding. It is by far one of the greatest South Indian cities, imbibing the overall vibe of the state. The streets of Madurai are amazing, and you will find so many different types of foods here. There is a range of dosas to choose from, the idlis are legendary, and if you are a non-vegetarian, you can experience the delight of Tamil Nadu's different culinary wonders.
Amritsar
Home to the holy Golden Temple, Amritsar is an active city full of amazing wonders, with street food being one. The famous Amritsari Kulcha is a must-try, and you must complete this meal with a tall glass of lassi. Winters is the time to try makke di roti, and sarson ka saag, while there are those amazing non vegetarian food items such as butter chicken, chicken tikka, among others.
Mumbai
The city is a glamour hub for certain, but it is also a place where you can find some of the best street foods in the country. You cannot leave the city without eating vada pav, which is omnipresent throughout the city. You should also try misal pav, the incredible Bombay sandwiches, and Parsi delights.
