However, we can’t deny the fact that old restaurants and cafes have a unique charm to them. These are full of character and have made a mark on Goa’s dining scene without compromising on taste.

Joseph Bar
A 70s bar in Goa with seating for about 15 to 20 people, this place is Goa’s hidden treasure! This pretty little tavern used to be a one-room bar back in the 70s. But after Atish Antonio Fernandes took the charge, the place transformed for good. Their fish cutlets and chicken samosas are absolutely delicious. They also serve locally prepared drinks such as kaju feni and coconut feni.

Hospedaria Venite Restaurant & Bar (1954)
This more than six decades old restaurant is situated inside a 200-year-old building! Now you can only imagine the rustic charm of the place. In those times, the place was a meeting point of officers and administrators in the state. The high ceilings and pretty balconies here will transport you back in time instantly. Their Indo-Portuguese fare is absolutely mouth watering. Do try their steaks, crabs and fish fillet.

Goenchin (1982)
Goenchin has been gracing Goa’s old lanes since 1982. The place dishes out amazing Pan Asian delicacies serving some best Chinese, Burmese, Korean and Thai dishes. It’s a charming restaurant that needs to be on your Goa food itinerary. But make sure you make reservations before you go.

Mr. Baker, Panaji (1922)
This good old charming bakery has been in Panaji since 1922. Counted among the oldest eateries in the state, the bakery is a hit among foodies. This Portuguese-style space serves some freshly baked goodies in Goa. Do try their rum ball and croquettes patties and bebinca (a silky seven-layered delight).

O’Coqueiro (1968)
Another old-is-gold kind of restaurant in Goa, O'Coqueiro was established in 1968. The place is famed for being the first to serve chicken cafreal in Goa by Chef Gines Viegas. Situated in Porvorim, the restaurant is absolutely gorgeous and has maintained its vintage flavours people swear by the restaurants.

Café Tato (1913)
Back in 1913, the place was known for serving the best tea and bhajis in the town. Today, the menu has extended to a wide variety of bhaji such as alsande bhaji and patal bhaji and samosas among others. There are three branches of Café Tato in Goa today. Their timeless menu that celebrates local produce has kept the place going since 1913!
