In Delhi, Khan Chacha serves the best kathi rolls. They have been in the business since 1972, and have featured on TV. They do not use paranthas in their rolls, but wrap up the meat in thin and soft roomali rotis. The grilled kebab meat comes in three varieties–tikka (large marinated pieces), kakori (minced with kidney fat and seasonings) and seekh (minced).

Kathi roll was introduced by the Nizam’s in 1932 and was the market leader till the 1970s. However, as other eateries copied the same concept and came up with their own Kathi rolls, Nizam’s was forced to shut shop in 2003 for two years due to some issues. Although, some locals believe that they no longer make the same quality of Kathi rolls as before, tourists in Kolkata should still visit Nizam’s eatery after their shopping stint at the New Market.

Mumbai makes its own version of kathi roll known as frankie. Nonetheless, kathi roll lovers can still get their favourite snack at Kathi Kebab Roll. They make special sauces to make their rolls turn out even more delicious and appealing to the taste of Mumbaikars. The sauces used by the eatery are barbecue, hummus, Schezwan, burnt garlic mayonnaise, mango jalapeno, olive herb and chocolate.
