Delectable desserts you must try in Agra
Agra, the city of the Taj Mahal, is so much more than its ancient buildings and architecture. The desserts of Agra are equally good given the city’s Mughal heritage and legacy. These mouthwatering sweet dishes are absolutely perfect to satisfy your sweet tooth. Let’s have a look at some of the famous desserts in Agra.
Petha
Petha is the official sweet dish of Agra! Every nook and cranny of the city is dotted with petha shops. These super soft and chewy balls of sweets are made of gourd or pumpkin and are available in myriad colours. One can choose from chocolate petha to angoori (grape), kesar (saffron), mango and paan (betel leaf), to name a few. Visit the original Panchhi Petha store to taste some authentic petha.
Gajak
This super tasty dry sweet dish is prepared with sesame seeds, jaggery, oil, and sugar. This is considered a perfect dish to enjoy in winters as gajak is considered to have warming ingredients. The sweet dish is available in several shapes and sizes and people simply love these.
Ghewar
This round-shaped delectable dish is prepared using flour, sugar syrup, and a lot of dry fruits. Ghewar is prepared especially during the Hindu festival of Teej and also to celebrate monsoons in July and August. All the sweet shops in the city sell these amazing ghewars.
Shahi tukda
This mughlai dessert is quite a rage in Agra. The dish is made using pure ghee fried bread, sweetened milk, saffron and nuts. It is called so because it was served to Mughal emperors back then.
Gond laddu
Another popular sweet from Agra is the gond laddu. This sweet dish is made using wheat flour, dry fruits and gond (edible gum). These laddus are moist, tender and super delicious and packed with nutrition.
