The award-winning Café in the Crypt is such a unique café, it already boasts a loyal international fan base who return year-on-year. Sitting immediately on Trafalgar Square, visitors could not be located more centrally on the tourist trail, so you may say that all paths lead to the crypt. Admire the beautiful 18th Century brick-vaulted ceilings whilst sipping your coffee. This is a large space, so finding a seat is generally no problem, and even if you do, there is another smaller area adjacent to the entrance that can cope with the overflow. This smaller room is used to display a small current exhibition of pictures, which hang on the brick walls, and have more comfortable seating alcoves. This area would definitely be my choice to enjoy a subterranean coffee. This is a traditional self-service style cafeteria, so do not expect specialist coffee blends on the menu but the list stretches to sixteen different tea infusions and coffees. If you feel peckish, there are plenty of food treats of nice homely food. There are even historic tombstones beneath your feet, dating back centuries.
