Nestled in the hills of the north, Chiang Mai is the coffee capital of Thailand in more ways than one. Not only are coffee beans grown in the surrounding mountains, but a thriving student and expat scene have spurred a building boom of unique cafes and coffee shops throughout the city. In the past few years there seems to have been a new cafe opening every week and they just keep getting better. From chain shops selling a wide range of drinks at different branches around the city, to small blink-and-you-might-miss-it cafes that seemingly pop up overnight and are careful to use only the finest roasts, there’s something to suit everyone’s tastes and coffee preferences. Super sweet iced coffees, the famous Thai iced tea, rich and creamy cappuccinos, single origin shots of espresso, and creative concoctions that are more desserts than they are drinks – you’ll find it all. Most of the new cafes are also incredibly cute to boot and you won’t be able to resist grabbing your phone to snap a selfie in your stylish surroundings. Plus, with cafes and stands on nearly every street, you never have to worry about going far to find your next cup of joe.
