Those much-loved ‘kol-balish’ will now feature in Kolkata hotels

West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation’s (WBTDC) latest offer will make sure that you have a good night sleep when you are in Kolkata. Latest reports suggest that the WBTDC has now decided to pamper their visitors by adding the very typical and much-loved kol balish (those slighter longer pillows are used by most people as side pillows while sleeping) to their bed décor. The department has already placed orders of 600 such long pillows, which will be placed along with cushions and pillows in rooms of state-run tourist lodges.
Usually filled with cotton, these side pillows are neither too hard, nor too soft, and the best are those made at home. When a customer survey was done in this region related to this thing, the result showed how people attached importance to these side pillows. This is the reason why WBTDC has now decided to introduce these in their renovated rooms. WBTDC officials stated that this will introduce people to a quirky habit of Bengalis, along with the state’s handlooms, food and handicraft.
Not just this, the WBTDC is also planning to transform all tourist lodges into ‘star-facilities’, for which it will likely make an investment of INR 690 crore. To begin with, the said facilities will also shed the lodge tag. Referring to this development, State Tourism Secretary Arti Bhattacharya stated that they have already completed upgrading and renovating as much as 134 lodges, which will soon be thrown open for tourists.
With the tourism department tying up with professional architects to renovate the existing facilities, much attention has been given to details, such as the angle at which the TV is kept, writing desk with table lamps, charging points at both sides of the bed, light above dressers, full length mirrors, luggage racks, and much more.
