The Beach

The furthest neighbourhood from downtown on the list, The Beach is east along the waterfront. It's well worth the trek, and you can take the Queen streetcar all the way. The Beach has an entirely different feeling, there is nowhere else like it. Charming cottages that feature elaborate gables and date from a gentler time line sloping streets down to a series of beaches, demarcated by a boardwalk, parkland and snack bars.
The Beach has the air of a British seaside resort town, with the added attraction of hip and lively Queen Street East running through it. Here you'll find everything from ice cream parlours to curio shops to cafes to a wide array of family-friendly restaurants, most owned and run by local shopkeepers. Kew Gardens is the social centre of The Beach, and where you can enjoy events like the popular summer Jazz and Blues Festival. On hot summer days, hordes of people head to The Beach for rest, relief, and relaxation. When the water quality is certified as safe (verified by the Blue Flag Program), it's also a great place to swim and enjoy the water.
