Hipster shopping haven in the heart of Bangkok
Noteworthy for: This is some of the best shopping in Asia and it's all conveniently located right off the Skytrain.
Word to the wise: The Siam Paragon mall has an ultra-modern bowling alley, an amazing food court, Southeast Asia's second largest aquarium, and one of the biggest movie theatres in Asia.
Siam Square—the closest thing to a city centre in Bangkok—is ground zero for shopping in the city with a multitude of malls, independent shops, and hip street stalls lining Rama I Road. Groups of young, stylish Thais spend their days and nights here, hanging out in the quirky boutiques, record shops, cool cafés and vintage stalls, or taking in an exhibit at the huge Art and Culture Centre.
There are five major malls here, each of which will likely dwarf most malls you've been to before. MBK is a famed eight-storey mall known for its high quality—yet fake—designer bags, pirated DVDs, and inexpensive clothes. The enormous Siam Paragon is an immaculate luxury mall filled with high-end designers and cool design stores, whilst Central World features more high street and independent clothing shops alongside vast bookstores.
