Sadashivgad Fort

History has it that this fort was built in 1715 by Rajah Basavalinga of Sonda dynasty. Located on the northern bank of the Kali River, the fort houses a temple of Goddess Durga. It is said that Chhatrapati Shivaji visited this place in 1665 and 1673 and captured the coastal area including Sadashivgad. He was an ardent devotee of Goddess Durga. The fort later passed hands from the Portuguese, East India Company and finally to the British. Though nothing much is left of the fort now, it being built on a hillock offers stunning views of the landscape including the Kali River. The sunset view from this point is truly mesmerizing. There is also a 17th century dargah near the temple that attracts a lot of visitors as well.
