When you are in Sri Lanka, you can opt to visit these places that are believed to have significant links to the epic tale of the Ramayana.
Kothmale
Kothmale holds profound significance in the Ramayana, which is believed to be the place where Sita, in captivity by Ravana, dropped rice balls strategically. This selfless act, which served as a crucial part of her plan to create a trail for Lord Rama so that he could follow it and eventually come and rescue her. This is the reason why Kothmale also serves as a pivotal Ramayana-related site in Sri Lanka.
Sita Kotuwa
A must-add to your Sri Lanka travel itinerary, Sita Kotuwa is believed to be the initial stage of Sita's captivity after her abduction by Ravana. This site holds great importance, representing the place where Sita was first held captive, and which played a significant moment in her journey before her relocation to Ashok Vatika, another crucial Ramayana location.
Ella
Nestled in the Badulla District of the Uva province, Ella is popular for its association with the Ramayana through the Ravana Falls and Ravana Caves. Approximately 2 km from Ella, there lies a man-made cave system that is believed to have been inhabited by Ravana.
