Birla family, India's most famous industrial family, has built many Hindu temples in various parts of the country under the name "Birla Mandir". In every city, the temple is dedicated to a different Hindu deity. Kurukshetra's Birla Mandir, built in 1952, is devoted to Lord Krishna. It is a spacious temple with a big garden. Lord Krishna's idol, pillars, floor, steps and statues, are made from pure white marble. These look absolutely breathtaking in pristine white, there is a sense of spreading of positive vibes and the environment appears divine. Some sayings from sage Vedvyas and Tulsidas are quoted on the temple walls, with their three dimensional portraits. There are beautiful marble elephant statues on both sides of the stairs that lead to the temple's main entrance. It's a common sight to see kids patting these cherubic little elephants and posing with them. In the garden outside, once again we have the most commonly depicted Krishna-Arjuna chariot, but this time in pure white elegant marble. The chariot has as a three dimensional painting that shows Krishna delivering Geeta sermons to Arjuna. The garden of this temple poses as a picnic spot for some visitors. Being Lord Krishna's temple, Janamashtmi festival is celebrated here grandly.
