Johannesburg Botanical Garden

The Johannesburg Botanical Garden along with the Emmarentia Dam is one of the nicest public spaces in the city and its perfectly trimmed grass, towering trees and marshlands will put a spell on you. This garth has several sections to explore; first being the ‘Shakespeare Garden’ that has herbs that were mentioned in the many plays written by Bard. Then there is ‘Herb Garden’ which houses plants that are used for cosmetic, medical and culinary purposes. There is also ‘Chapel Garden’ for weddings along with ‘Rose Garden’ that is dotted with cherry blossoms and roses. This particular zone makes for splendid photo ops. Also, ‘Hedge Garden’ has a good number of 50 different types of hedges while ‘Arboretum’ has oaks, redwoods and birches. The indoor ‘Succulent Collection’ has around 100 types of cacti sourced from all over the globe

You can go jogging or cycle along the dedicated tracks inside the garden and spend some time in the company of nature. The Botanical Garden can be easily accessed by the elderly and specially abled and has greatly augmented the aesthetic value of Johannesburg. Expect to spend a lovely afternoon in the warm embrace of evergreen trees.
