The imposing structure featuring 87 flags of EU nations is one of the most important Renaissance buildings in Europe. The building is also designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is a must visit for those exploring the city of Belgium. Built in the 1560’s, the city hall is the main attraction of the city, taking up a large part of the Antwerp's Grote Markt (Great Market Square) with its beautiful façade and massive size, standing tall right behind the Brabo fountain—a statue created by Jef Lambeaux about a city legend. The Great Market Square—often referred to as the heart of the city—is peppered with many guild houses which make for an interesting historical tour day.
