IRCTC has announced new online service to change ‘boarding station’

Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has announced a new service to change the boarding station. It is aimed to provide relief to travellers, who wish to change their boarding station in case of emergency or during some impromptu requirement.

The new feature is going to give privilege to all those passengers who have booked their train tickets online and not through travel agents or the Passenger Reservation System. In addition, boarding station alteration is not allowed for PNRs with VIKALP option.

The change in the station can be done online before 24 hours of the scheduled departure of the train.
According to the IRCTC official website, if a passenger changes the boarding point once, he will lose all rights to board the train from the original boarding point.

If found travelling without required authority, the passenger will have to pay the fare with penalty between original boarding point and the revised boarding point.

Also, as per the IRCTC rules, the change in boarding point can be done only once and not for the currently booked tickets.

Steps to change boarding station on IRCTC website:

• Login to IRCTC website, with your login ID and password.
• Go to ‘Booking Ticket History’.
• Select your train and go for change boarding point, the new page will open up.
• Select the new boarding station from the drop-down, under change boarding station section.
