The story of Rama and Sita is not only limited to India. The legend has associations with countries like Nepal and Sri Lanka as well. Janakpur in Nepal is the place where Sita was born while Sri Lanka is the nation where she was kept by Ravana after being abducted.
There are several Sita temples spread across these places that hold a special place in the hearts of devotees. These temples with their unique significance and legends associated with the life of Sita are a must visit.

Sita Gufa, Nasik, Maharashtra
This small cave and a pilgrimage destination is associated with the Hindu Ramayana epic. It is believed that this is the place from where Ravana kidnapped Sita.
Seetha Devi Temple, Kerala
Set some 20 km from Meenangadi, Seetha Devi Temple is built along the Calicut-Mysore National Highway. The temple is dedicated to Sita and is also known as the Sree Pulpally Seetha Lava Kusha Temple. It pays homage not only to Sita but also to her two sons, Lava and Kusa.
Seetha Amman Temple, Sri Lanka
The Seetha Amman Temple is situated in the lush landscapes of Nuwara Eliya in Sri Lanka. This temple is renowned for its connection to the Ashok Vatika, the garden where Sita is believed to have been held captive by Ravana. Pilgrims visit this serene temple to seek blessings and witness the revered Sita Tear Pond, believed to have been formed by Sita's tears during her captivity.
Janakpur Dham, Nepal
Janakpur Dham in Nepal is associated with the life of Sita. This ancient city is believed to be the birthplace of Sita and the capital of her father, King Janaka. The Janaki Mandir, a magnificent temple dedicated to Sita, attracts devotees and tourists alike. The temple showcases amazing architecture and hosts the annual Vivah Panchami festival, commemorating the divine marriage of Lord Rama and Sita.
Sita Samahit Sthal, Bihar
Sita Samahit Sthal is one of the iconic places related to Sita. Set in the Sitamarhi district of Bihar, the Sita Samahit Sthal is believed to be the exact spot where Sita went back to her ‘Mother’ Earth. Mythology has it that Sita chose to return to her mother, Bhumi Devi, at this place. The temple complex includes a sacred pond known as the Janaki Kund, adding to the spiritual aura of the site. Pilgrims flock to this temple during the annual Sita Navami festival to pay homage to the goddess.
