Exploring best places of North India via trains
Well, there is no denying the fact that train journeys are not just fun, but also make your long journeys comfortable. In short, travelling via train in India surely offers a vibe that you can’t just ignore. Here, we take you to some of the best places in North India that you can reach via train.
Ranthambore Tiger Reserve, Rajasthan
It’s a gem of Sawai Madhopur and one of the most popular tiger reserves in the country. Apart from tiger spotting, your itinerary must also feature the UNESCO World Heritage site, the Ranthambore Fort. If you have more time to spare, make sure that you visit Padam Lake to spot a variety of colourful birds. And yes, you can take a train ride till Sawai Madhopur for a comfortable journey.
Shimla, Himachal Pradesh
Although there are no direct trains from Delhi to Shimla, you can easily book a ride till Shimla via Delhi-Kalka line and then Kalka-Shimla line. Do note that the train journey to Shimla will be made through the iconic Kalka–Shimla train route, which shouldn’t be missed at all! Dotted with dense forests of oak, pine and deodar, Shimla is a popular hill destination that promises spectacular views of nature and colonial architecture.
Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh
Also, known as the City of Nawabs, Lucknow rightfully justifies the title. When here, don’t miss to taste its delicious tunday kebabs, Chikankari artwork, and intricately designed monuments. With rich cultural heritage, Lucknow has managed to skillfully blend with its modern landscape. Lucknow also has a railway station that is connected to major cities, which means taking a train ride till here won’t be a tough task.
Amritsar, Punjab
Amritsar, home to the Golden Temple, attracts tons of visitors from across the world every year. It’s the cultural centre of Punjab, where visitors apart from visiting the Golden Temple, the historic Jallianwala Bagh, and Wagah Border also make it into their itinerary. One also gets to enjoy the best of Punjabi cuisine at various dhabas spread across the city. If you love trains, you will easily get direct trains to Amritsar from all the major cities.
Dehradun, Uttarakhand
You can book a train ride from Delhi to Dehradun, from where you can easily visit other places nearby, like Mussoorie, Chakrata and more. Located at a height of around 1400 ft above the sea level, you can plan a visit to this place any time of the year, owing to its pleasant weather all-year round.
