Located in the west of Bangkok, but just east of the Chao Phraya River, Chinatown (or Yaowarat) is an exotic, frenetic labyrinth of streets and alleys bursting with stores, trading warehouses, and—most importantly—terrific places to eat. Vibrant ethnic communities bursting with colour
Word to the wise: Yes, it's a big hit with the locals, but it's worth considering the ecological effects of tucking into a traditional shark fin soup in Chinatown.
Neighbouring Phahurat (or Little India) is an equally vibrant enclave, but unlike its Chinese counterpart, this area practically shuts down after dark, so plan your visit during the daytime. Crowned by the golden-domed Sri Guru Singh Sabha Temple, Phahurat's shopping options are endless with the sprawling Sampeng Market, Fabrics Market, the colonial-style Old Siam Plaza, and the newer India Emporium all within walking distance.
