Nelson is one of the oldest settler towns in New Zealand and World Cup venue Saxton Oval is one of the world's newest cricket locations. This laidback region is a classic summer holiday destination, enjoying more sunshine hours than anywhere else in New Zealand. Here you’ll find the golden sands, sparkling waters and many ‘glamping’ trails of Abel Tasman National Park, or head east to the picture-perfect Marlborough Sounds and surrounding wine-growing region. Take your time on the Marlborough fine wine trail, sip a chilled sauvignon blanc while sampling shellfish aboard a Greenshell Mussel Cruise in the beautiful Sounds and then head south for whale-watching at Kaikoura.
