Corona-free Sikkim gets its first positive case after student returns from Delhi

Sikkim had remained safe from the novel Coronavirus even when the pandemic started spreading throughout the country in March.
According to the latest reports, Sikkim is no longer Corona-free. The north-eastern state has now its first COVID-19 case after a 25-year-old student developed the symptoms after his recent trip to Delhi to prepare for competitive examinations. On being medically tested, the student was found to be infected with the novel virus.
News has it that the medical test sample of the student in question was sent to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital in Siliguri for further examination. The Health Department Director General-cum-Secretary Pempa Tshering Bhutia told the press that the medical report turned out to be positive for the student.
Meanwhile, the student has been put under quarantine and medical observation at Sir Thutob Namgyal Memorial (STNM) Hospital. He belongs to Ravangla in South Sikkim district.
