Greenland recorded temperature 40 degrees above normal and extensive ice sheet melting was noticed before usual time! The worried scientists are saying that sea ice loss is several weeks ahead of usual, a phenomenon which is not-at-normal.
It all begun last week when a stagnant zone of high-pressure air over Greenland filled the region with warm air. This resulted in temperature rise, which was recorded as much as 40 degrees Fahrenheit above normal. The condition got worse later with a cloudless climate condition, which ultimately resulted in ice sheet melting across the region.

The North American state recorded melting of 2 billion tons of ice, which is nearly 45 per cent of the surface (275000 square miles) in just a day!
Another factor that led to the early melting situation in Greenland was the light snowfall last winter. Last year, the snowfall recorded in northern Greenland was relatively low. Thinner the snow, faster it melts. This phenomenon allows old snow to absorb more sunlight, which results in fast melting.
It is estimated that if the trend continues, all this melting would increase the level of sea water! Call it global warming or nature’s warning, this is high time that the human race comes together and works towards protecting and conserving the nature, or else the day ‘doomsday’ is not far away!
