Stonehenge is one of the world’s most popular prehistoric monuments. Most tourists who visit UK try to visit Stonehenge. In fact, it is one of the most popular day trips from London and not without reason. This intriguing Neolithic structure has been the subject of many documentaries, films, and TV series. Despite extensive research, the origins of Stonehenge remain mysterious. It is said to have been built between 3000 BC and 2000 BC but little else is known about it.
The entire monument has a pagan air about it. It’s easy to visit on a day trip from London, but make sure you start your day early and reach the site before 10 am. This is because it can get very crowded once tourist buses start coming in from London. Explore the site, the visitor centre, and the surrounding Neolithic houses before you leave Stonehenge. Make sure you pack a picnic before leaving the house. The countryside around Stonehenge is stunning and there are a number of opportunities for picnics amidst fields full of flowers. It makes for the perfect day out from London.
