Started by Robert Pim Butchart, a pioneer of the American Cement Industry and his wife Jennie Butchart, about a century back as a domestic nursery, the Butchart Gardens today are an amalgamation of six gardens: Sunken Garden, Concert Lawn Walk, Rose Garden, Japanese Garden, Italian garden and Mediterranean Garden. The garden not only offers you the views of over 900 varieties of flowers, but also hosts a number of leisure activities like Christmas fairs, Ice skating and Saturday night fireworks in the summer. Spanning across 55 acres, the gardens are designated as a National Historic Site of Canada. Located near the Vancouver Island, these gardens attract about a million visitors every year. The best months to visit are March to June.
