Best ways to experience the Andamans
You finally take out time for a holiday in the gorgeous Andamans and are wondering what your itinerary will look like? There’s so much more to do than laze around on the beach and sip some delicious beverages. Your Andamans trip can be a mix of leisure, adventure and nature experiences.
So, we have hand-picked some of the best and more fun experiences you can have when in the Andamans.
Scuba Diving, because, why not?
Andamans is one of the best places in the world to go scuba diving. Turquoise water, colourful coral reefs, and a rich marine life awaits you. All you have to do is get a guide, don your scuba gear and go swim with the fishes!
Walk the sea bed
And because you are already out there in the waters, why not give swimming a break, and go for an underwater walk? Then you can say, “I love taking long walks on the sea bed.” But, remember to wear proper gear, sea beds aren’t free of things that can poke you.
Go see the limestone caves at Baratang Island
There are ferries to take you to these caves. Again, wear proper footwear because cave floors, with its jagged rocks and stones, can be a tad bit uncomfortable to walk on with flip flops. These caves are best for adventure seekers.
Mangrove kayaking is a thing here
Visit Mayabunder’s amazing mangroves and look around you, you will find unique flora and fauna. Did you know that the mangroves single-handedly take care of a majority of erosion problems on an island? Go look at these amazing plants that’s keeping our favourite island destination safe. But first, get a crash course on how to use a kayak.
Go to jail
Calm down! We meant, go visit the very famous Cellular Jail. Many Bollywood movies have had their villains (and sometimes heroes) thrown into the Kala Pani Jail. While those are works of fiction, there were in fact many Indian freedom fighters who were imprisoned here by the Britishers. Get a lesson in history here at the Cellular Jail.
Be a nature nut at Chidiya Tapu
If you are both a beach-baby and a birding enthusiast, Chidiya Tapu is just the place for you. This island is also known as Bird Island because of the wide varieties of bird species that call this island home. But birds and the beach aren’t the only things this island has to offer you. The sunset view from this island is just glorious.
Explore India’s only active volcano at Barren Island
To all the adventure lovers out there, you’ll be talking about this volcano tour for a long time. The island is completely uninhabited by humans, save for some flying foxes, bats, bird species, rodents, and surprisingly, goats.
