The Chatuchak Weekend Market is one of the biggest markets in the world, let alone Bangkok. You can find anything here that your heart desires. It’s especially great for odd-ball items. Browsing the countless aisles, you’ll stumble upon books, paintings, handicrafts, clothes, home decor items, and antiques — just to name a few. Like many Asian markets, there’s also a pet section with rows upon rows of caged animals waiting to be bought. This is probably the market’s most difficult section to walk through because the treatment of animals is so poor.
Food is found in abundance, with everything from fresh seafood and local produce to exotic fruit and Thai dishes from the myriad food stalls. A separate flower market is also in the area. Extremely foreigner friendly, the market is conveniently located nearby ATMs, currency exchange booths, and information in English. Wear clothing that keeps you cool, as the market can reach unbearably hot temperatures in the afternoon. To beat the heat, arrive by 10am.
