The Vietnam National Museum of Fine Arts is located in Hanoi, this is the primary art museum in all of Vietnam and regarded as the best collection of art in Hanoi.
Hanoi’s Fine Art Museum is housed in two buildings that were once the French Ministry of Information. The array of different exhibitions showcases many different types of art work with pieces that date back to ancient times right up to contemporary art. Highlights include the ancient Champa stone carvings, lacquered statues of Buddhist monks from the Tay Son dynasty and effigies of Guan Yin, the thousand-eyed, thousand-armed goddess of compassion. There is also a substantial collection of contemporary art, folk-naive paintings and art from the 20th and 21st Century as well, much of which contains themes of martyrdom and military strategy.
