The trek passes through a dense forest and beautiful valleys with the raging Parvati river flowing by. The trail passes through incredibly beautiful waterfalls amid lush greenery and towering trees. On the way, the traditional village of Naktan will pass by with a few homestays and dhabas and after that the temple at Rudranag, which is halfway on the Barshaini route.
There’s a huge waterfall just after Rudranag with a café nearby. The trail starts becoming quite steep after this and is a nonstop climb in some places. But all the soreness from trekking disappears after a dip or two in the hot water springs (separate enclosures for men and women) that are known to cure skin ailments, after reaching Kheerganga. There are many basic tents and other options to stay in shared accommodation, and stay is also possible at the ashram (maintained by sadhus). Colourful cafés abound in Kheerganga and most of them have good food.
There is a famous local legend about Kheerganga that Shiva meditated here for 10000 years and a Shiva Temple is just above the hot water springs. It is recommended to stay in Kheerganga for the night and then make your way back to Barshaini in order to not get lost in the dark.
