Thimphu is the capital city of Bhutan, which is situated in the western central part of the country and serves as an administrative town. This largest city of Bhutan is spread out in northern southern direction on the valley formed around Raidāk River (also known as Wang Chu or Thimphu Chu). Unlike any capital city in the world, Thimphu doesn’t have an airport and is dependent on Paro, which is approximately 55 km away. Owning to its altitude, Thimphu is also the third highest capital city in the world. One can find many restaurants, nightclubs and shopping centres here. However, this bustling town still retains its ancient tradition which is quite noticeable. The juxtaposition of the old world charm traditions versus modernisation makes it a worth visit. Popular attractions of Thimpu include Changangkha Lhakhang, National Folk Heritage Museum and Simtokha Dzong.
