Located a little away from the city centre, Schaulager is an unusual place in that it is neither a regular art gallery/museum nor a warehouse but a judicious combination of both. Founded in 2003, this massive square building aims at combining storage space and display space for contemporary art. It acts as a storage space for the immense collection of Emanuel Hoffman Foundation. The facility is primarily for a more evolved audience like researchers, scholars and experts. However, the museum does organise cutting edge exhibitions in its central public space, which is open to the public.
