Retired Bombay HC judge Gautam Patel says his family received threats over his 2024 Dawoodi Bohra succession verdict, including a demand to recant it on YouTube. His daughter was later attacked in London, where she lives
A former Bombay High Court judge’s daughter is allegedly assaulted on a London street. Weeks later, a death threat reaches her home. The demand, according to retired judge Gautam Patel, is not for money. It is for him to publicly disown a judgement he delivered in 2024 in one of the Dawoodi Bohra community’s most important succession disputes.
The threat letter was allegedly delivered on June 5 to the London home of Patel’s daughter, Aditi. According to reports, it came after she was physically assaulted in London. Speaking from London, Patel said the threat was linked to his April 2024 judgement in the Dawoodi Bohra succession case, which decided who should be recognised as the Syedna, or spiritual leader, of the community.
