After losing his wife and UK-born daughter in the Air India crash, a Vadodara man living in London is fighting Britain’s attempt to send him away from the only place that still holds their memories

A Vadodara man who moved to the UK to build a life with his young wife is now fighting to stay in the country where that life was made — and where its memories remain.

Mohammad Shethwala, 28, lost his wife, Sadikabanu Tapeliwala, 24, and their UK-born two-year-old daughter Fatima in the Air India crash on June 12, 2025. A year later, he faces the prospect of being forced to leave Britain after the UK Home Office rejected his application to remain on compassionate grounds.
