Just hours before she was found dead at her marital home in Bhopal, 31-year-old Twisha Sharma called her mother in Noida with a plea — “I had an abortion. Book my ticket home, I don’t want to live here anymore”.

Her parents booked a flight for May 15, expecting to bring their daughter back to Greater Noida West. But Twisha never made that journey. Instead, they travelled overnight to Bhopal and found themselves outside a mortuary, waiting to receive her body.
