This case will turn your Apple Watch into this 'dead' Apple product
A new case called TinyPod transforms a strapless Apple Watch into a small device that looks and works like an iPod.
The TinyPod is a silicone case that houses an Apple Watch without its straps. It features a click wheel similar to old iPod models. This wheel mechanically turns the Apple Watch's Digital Crown, allowing users to scroll through apps and menus.
"Your phone away from phone" is how TinyPod markets itself. It takes advantage of the Apple Watch's cellular capabilities to offer essential phone functions in a compact, iPod-like form.
The TinyPod works with Apple Watch Series 4 and newer models, including the SE and Ultra versions. It comes in sizes to fit 40/41mm, 44/45mm, and 49mm Apple Watches.
Using the TinyPod has some limitations. Using an Apple Watch this way requires disabling wrist detection, which normally keeps the watch unlocked. Users would need to enter a passcode frequently or leave the watch unsecured.
The device leaves the back of the Apple Watch exposed for charging. TinyPod claims this allows for longer battery life, as the watch's sensors are not constantly active against the skin.
The TinyPod, priced at $79.99, is now available for pre-order. A cheaper "lite" version without the click wheel is available for $29.99. Both versions are expected to ship later this summer.
