Apple smart glasses still in works, may not launch anytime soon
The long-rumored Apple Glass, a pair of augmented reality (AR) smart glasses, are still in the works. While Apple is reportedly still working on the project, recent reports suggest a long wait before we see them on store shelves.
This news comes after analyst Mark Gurman revealed that Apple's development of AR smart glasses is in its early stages. While some speculated a release by 2026 or 2027, Gurman says even within Apple, there's no belief the glasses will be ready that soon.
Apple's focus appears to be on overcoming technical hurdles related to battery life, miniaturization of powerful hardware, and user experience. Rumors suggest Apple might be exploring features like supercharged AirPods with built-in health sensors and advanced AI capabilities, potentially serving as a companion device to the glasses.
Despite the long wait, Apple's commitment to the AR space is evident.
Apple stops work on next-generation Vision ProMeanwhile, a recent online report revealed that Apple has suspended development on the next generation of its high-end Vision Pro headset. According to a report by The Information, the company is now prioritising the release of a more affordable version of the headset, which could hit the market by the end of 2025.
Sources knowledgeable about Apple's supply chain and manufacturing processes informed The Information that the tech giant has notified at least one supplier of its decision to pause work on the Vision Pro 2. This decision follows a significant slowdown in sales of the current $3,500 Vision Pro model since its launch earlier this year.
