Never give up on your dreams

I had a clear vision of my future during my teenage years and worked relentlessly towards achieving my goals. I excelled in college. Despite facing multiple challenges, including lack of guidance and societal biases, I persisted. Early marriage hindered my pursuit of a Master’s degree, and gender biases made it challenging to change jobs. Nevertheless, I continued to advance my career by relying on my determination and hard work. Upon returning to work as a new mother, finding an ideal hybrid schedule posed challenges, but my ambition to be a role model for my daughter kept me focused.

Today, I proudly serve as director of engineering at Tredence, overseeing delivery leadership in cloud and data engineering, product engineering, and data science.

Here is my advice to all aspiring women professionals.

• Prioritise your health | My mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing are my top priorities. I hit the gym every morning to maintain my health and cultivate positive energy, which helps me tackle workplace stress and complex challenges with ease.
• Be bold & confident | Confidence in showcasing your accomplishments and presenting yourself in larger forums is crucial. Women are often underrepresented in these venues, making success even more challenging. So, don’t hesitate to put yourself out there and seize every opportunity to demonstrate your capabilities.
• Seek mentorship | Immerse yourself in the stories and experiences of influential women leaders. Read their articles, watch their videos, and engage with them in conversation. You will gain invaluable guidance, support, and inspiration.
• Embrace new skills | I believe in the power of continuous learning. In addition to gaining knowledge and experience on the job, I actively pursue technology certifications to enhance my skills and stay on top of the latest industry trends. This approach helps me tackle complex data & analytics challenges and constantly pushes me to new heights.
• Be perseverant | My positive attitude and determination have helped me navigate the challenging yet rewarding journey of motherhood. Women often halt their careers due to the pressure of balancing work and family responsibilities upon entering motherhood. It’s time to advocate for better support systems that enable us to pursue our passions and fulfil our family roles.
