Elon Musk gives less than a year to coding as a profession, says: There is no…
Elon Musk predicts coding as a profession will end by the end of 2026. A clip of the Tesla CEO is doing rounds on the internet where he can be seen saying that one may not “bother doping coding” by the end of this year. “I think (..) by the end of this year you don't even bother doing coding. The AI will just create the binary directly. And the AI can create a much more efficient binary than can be done by any compiler.” Musk added that this shift could bypass traditional software development processes altogether.
He said there may be no need for intermediate steps such as writing source code, compiling it, and then converting it into machine code. Instead, AI systems could handle the entire process on their own
Musk, who leads companies such as Tesla and SpaceX, has repeatedly spoken about the rapid progress of AI and its impact on jobs. In the past, he has warned that artificial intelligence could disrupt several professions, including software development.
His latest comments come at a time when large technology companies are increasingly using AI tools to assist with coding tasks. Last month, Microsoft asked its engineers to test Claude Code alongside GitHub Copilot and share feedback on performance. World’s largest chip maker Nvidia gave access to OpenAI Codex to its staff recently.
The video was shared by X user Dustin @r0ck3t23 with the caption: “Elon Musk thinks coding dies this year. Not evolves. Dies. By December, AI won’t need programming languages. It generates machine code directly. Binary optimized beyond anything human logic could produce. No translation. No compilation. Just pure execution. We’re not automating programming. We’re erasing it from existence.
The entire profession collapses into a thought. Decades of training reduced to irrelevance. The gap between idea and instantiation hits zero.
You don’t build anymore. You imagine, and it materializes. Not incremental progress. Total phase shift. The way humans have created things for ten thousand years just became obsolete.Welcome to a world where the limiting factor isn’t skill, resources, or time. It’s whether you can picture what you want clearly enough for a machine to birth it into existence.
In another news, Elon Musk-owned SpaceX has delayed its Mars mission to prioritise building a self-sustaining city on the Moon. The update was shared by the tech billionaire in an X post citing faster timelines and easier launch opportunities. Sharing the post, Elon Musk said that a Moon city could be achieved in less than 10 years, while building a city on Mars would take more than two decades. While the Moon is now the top priority, Musk said SpaceX has not abandoned its Mars plans. “The mission of SpaceX remains the same: extend consciousness and life as we know it to the stars,” Musk wrote on X.
