From security cameras to MRI scanners: Canon is planning to expand these businesses in India

Canon has recently announced its plans to expand its core business segments of imaging, printing and surveillance in India. The Japanese tech major is also looking forward to increase its presence in the semiconductor, flat panel display business and the medical industry in the country. The company made these announcements during its latest strategy meeting in Mumbai which was attended by its key global leadership.

How the company plans to expand its businesses

In the industrial equipment business, Canon has a wide range of semiconductor lithography equipment and flat panel display lithography equipment. The company aims to introduce better lithography solutions and emphasise eco-friendly practices, backed by improved customer service in India.

Beyond equipment provision, Canon is planning to develop talent in India. For the healthcare industry, the company also offers a portfolio of advanced medical products and solutions from diagnostic imaging systems and healthcare IT solutions. With India as a key market, Canon further focuses on expanding its medical business.

How Canon has performed in different markets

The company claims that it has established a good market share in the digital imaging industry as an end-to-end solutions provider. The company has also been successful in diversifying into new markets, broadening its product range and asserting its leadership across customer segments.


In the camera segment, Canon has retained its leading share in the Digital Interchangeable Lens Camera (DILC) global market for 21 consecutive years, the company said. It is further planning to expand its imaging business from the conventional camera industry to include other offerings like video management and video analytics.

Similarly, in the printing business, Canon aims to become the global leader in office and home printing. As per the company, its products are suitable for modern remote working lifestyles and enable digital transformation in the office as well.

The company also noted that the surveillance and broadcast range of solutions has also been receiving positive responses from customers. Canon even aims to strengthen its positioning as the one-stop surveillance solution provider.
