Snapdeal product chief Anand Chandrasekaran quits
NEW DELHI: Snapdeal’s chief product officer Anand Chandrasekaran has quit the company. The news was announced by Snapdeal co-founder Rohit Bansal on his Twitter handle.
“Proud of the super work by you and the product team. Hard to believe that this was just 1 yr. Farewell, keep rocking,” Bansal tweeted.
He is expected to start his own company.
Chandrasekaran had joined the e-tailer in June last year. Before this, he was with Bharti Airtel where he held the same post and led product strategy for music streaming service Wynk and Airtel Money.
Before Airtel, Chandrasekaran worked with Yahoo and Openwave and had co-founded Aeroprise Inc, which was acquired by BMC Software later.
Snapdeal recently reported a slower growth in its gross sales for the year ended March 2016. The company’s gross merchandize value, or GMV, grew 90% at the end of the financial year 2015-16 against 301% in the previous fiscal. This comes on the back of Amazon weaning away marketshare from domestic players, more so from Snapdeal.
GMV is the overall sales done by merchants on an e-commerce platform, without factoring discounts and returns, out of which e-tailers get between 5-20% as margin depending on the category.
