During a backstage segment, Gunther expressed discontent with his Imperium teammates, Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci, for falling short of his expectations. He urged them to stay on Raw to enhance their skills.
The reason behind Gunther's break has now been disclosed by Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter: Gunther's wife, former pro wrestler Jinny, gave birth to their son on December 27th, 2023. Gunther shared the joyful news on his social media platforms.
Gunther's hiatus comes at a time when he has held the WWE Intercontinental Championship for an impressive 566 days, establishing himself as one of the longest-reigning champions in recent memory. Triple H has lauded Gunther, emphasizing his continuous improvement and dedication to the craft.
The accomplished wrestler gained prominence as the longest-reigning WWE United Kingdom Champion before transitioning to NXT in January 2022. His main roster debut took place in April of the same year, and he secured the WWE Intercontinental Championship on the June 10th episode of SmackDown.
On the other hand, Jinny, Gunther's wife, enjoyed a successful wrestling career and was formerly signed to WWE, prominently featured on the NXT UK brand. She officially retired from wrestling in January 2023.
