Gunther vs. Sami Zayn: Why It’s Not Happening at WWE Bad Blood

After chasing him for what seems like months, Sami Zayn has finally gotten himself a shot at fighting Gunther for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. The match was announced last week, and one would think that the timing is perfect for Sami Zayn and Gunther to fight for the title at Bad Blood 2024.

Gunther will actually be taking place on the episode of RAW, which will follow Bad Blood 2024. After weeks of guessing we have finally learned the real reason revealed by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Here’s what Meltzer had to say about Sami Zayn vs. Gunther not happening at Bad Blood:
“Bad Blood will remain in the five-match and three-hour format. The Gunther vs. Sami Zayn world title match will be on the 10/7 Raw show rather than here. When we asked why, we were told that this show didn’t need that match, so they could use it to boost Raw. And based on ticket sales and secondary market demand, that would be correct.”

Sami Zayn vs. Gunther is a PLE caliber match



Both Sami Zayn and Gunther are two of the biggest WWE stars at the moment. Moreover, they have excellent chemistry in the ring, as is evident by their recent feud and their IC title match at WrestleMania. At a single glance, it is clear to see that these stars have both the power and the quality to be part of a PLE.
But, if WWE believes they don’t need Sami Zayn vs. Gunther at Bad Blood, then there’s no point in arguing. If anything, the fans will be getting a PLE caliber match on a weekly show, and that alone is reason enough to celebrate. Will Gunther’s solid championship run finally come to an end, or will Sami Zayn surprise the WWE world by becoming the World Heavyweight Champion?
Regardless of what happens, this match is definitely not one to miss. It’ll be interesting to see who comes out on top when Sami Zayn and Gunther go head-to-head on next week’s episode of RAW.
