NEW DELHI: Alexander Zverev, the world number four, advanced to the fourth round of Wimbledon for the third time after a hard-fought straight-sets victory over British player Cameron Norrie.
The German, who recently finished as the runner-up at the French Open, prevailed 6-4, 6-4, 7-6 (17/15), with the tiebreaker in the third set lasting over 20 minutes, AFP reported.
During the second set, at 2-2, Zverev experienced a concerning moment when he slipped and fell, seemingly twisting his left ankle and jarring his knee while rushing to the net on Centre Court. He received treatment from the physio and took a medical timeout at the conclusion of the set.
Zverev showcased his serving prowess throughout the match, not facing a single break point and delivering 15 aces among his 52 winners.
However, he required six match points to secure the victory, while also saving five set points in the third set tiebreaker.
Despite having never progressed beyond the fourth round at Wimbledon, Zverev will now face either the US 13th seed Taylor Fritz or Chile's Alejandro Tabilo for a spot in the quarter-finals.
