LONDON: Sania Mirza and Czech Lucie Hradecka, the sixth seeds in the Wimbledon women's doubles, went down to Poland's Magdalena Frech and Brazil's Beatriz Haddad Maia, 6-4, 4-6, 2-6 in a match that may be summed up in lost opportunities.

The difference between the two teams out on Court 14 late on Wednesday evening was a mere six points on the total points count, but the match perhaps turned in the column of breakpoints saved. Haddad Maia and Frech saved eight of 10 breakpoints they faced in the 2-hours 5-minute encounter.

India's Ramkumar Ramanathan and Bosnia's Tomislav Brkic went down to the American combine of Tommy Paul and Nicholas Monroe 3-6, 6-7 (5) in the men's doubles first-round.
